Cyberbullying has become major issue in contemporary society. The number of teenagers facing cyberbullying has risen by 88% in the last five years, according to NSPCC (2016). Many adults believe that this is due to the overwhelming, increasing access that influential, young adults have to new social media platforms. The rapid uprise of new technologies creates social issues for thousands of children and teenagers coping with hurtful teasing or bullying. Despite the recent ascend of cyberbullying in the twenty first century, traditional bullying is still a relevant difficulty for children in society to overcome, often occurring in schools.

Eve Scott (14) and her story:
Eve's tale has made regional news due to the humiliating truth of her escalating depression causing the young girl to attempt suicide. In her house in Dulwich, Eve’s parents found recent notes written in her diary which strongly suggested her intention of ending her own life due to bullying. This was revealed through phrases such as ‘I don’t want to go on any longer like this’. Both parents are unbelievably grateful for finding this evidence in time to save their little girl, and plead that parents take deeper interest in their children’s lives to prevent them self harming and spiralling into depression.
After examining the victim’s computer, hundreds of abusive messages including emotional harassment, threats and intimidation were found. Eve also admitted she was beaten by her bully, causing scars and bruises.
School children confess to witnessing her harassment and not doing anything to assist her. Eve reveals the overwhelming fear and anxiety she felt at school every day and online, being battered by the verbal and physical abuse.
Eve tells her parents: ‘I was suffering in silence for so long and it seemed to me that nobody cared. I thought nobody would notice if I disappeared like I was told to do. I felt humiliated’.

regardless of
who is committing the wrong "
Eve’s story can teach hundreds of adults to make themselves aware of bullying as sometimes it is cleverly concealed. We must protect our children and notice the signs before it is too late.
